Northampton County Youth Concert Band to perform Nigel’s first wind orchestra work `Samurai’ under the baton of Peter Smalley. This performance will take place at the Derngate Theatre, Northampton on Sunday 14th March.

Nigel’s clarinet quintet `Equiano’ is out this month as a digital release on the Naxos label. The album is called  `British Clarinet Quintets’ (9.70122) and is performed by Linda Merrick (Clarinet) and the Navarra Quartet. Brass Band Buizingen is delighted to appoint Nigel Clarke as its Associate Composer. Brass Band Buizingen worked closely with the composer in 2009 and premiered his `Swift Severn’s Flood’ during the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Holland).  They plan to perform many more of his works during his appointment. Nigel Clarke is no stranger to the brass band world as he was Composer-in-Residence to the world famous Black Dyke Mills Band  from 1994 to 2000.Read More

The University of Mississippi Wind Ensemble under the baton of Dr David Willson will give the US premiere of Nigel Clarke’s Heritage Suite (What Hope Saw). The premiere will take place in February 2010 at a College Band Directors National Association event hosted at the University of Mississippi. Nigel is hoping to attend this concert.

Conductor Dr Dario Sotelo and the Brazilian Wind Orchestra are to give the Brazilian premiere of Nigel’s symphonic wind orchestra suite `Mata Hari’. No stranger to Nigel’s work, last year Dario Sotelo gave the Brazilian premiere of `Breaking the Century’. The concert will take place in March at the Conservatoire of Tatui in the Teatro Procopio Ferreira de Tatui which is in the City of Tatui in the State of Sao Paulo.

Renowned British trumpet player Simon Cheney is to record Nigel Clarke’s unaccompanied trumpet work `Premonitions’ (1990) on the Brass Classics label. The disc will mostly comprise of works by living British composers. Nigel’s work is written as three short prophetic fanfares that reflect and question the atmosphere of the modern world. `Premonitions‘ is published by Novello & Co.

Clarinetist Linda Merrick’s new book explores her collaboration with three British composers – Nigel Clarke, Martin Ellerby and Philip Sparke.This book focuses on interaction between composers and performers in the context of the clarinet concerto genre. As well as looking at works by Ellerby and Sparke she examines her collaboration with Nigel whilst writing his `Devil and the Hemlock Stone’ and his clarinet concerto `Battles & Chants’.Read More
